Technology has advanced in leaps and bounds since Buckie’s first lifeboat Miriam arrived in 1860. However the dedication and enthusiasm of the volunteer crews has not diminished. The ‘Institution’, as it was then known, was a mere 36 years old and a request from Commander McDonald RN, Inspector of Coastguard resulted in an order for a ‘Peake’ type self- righting boat. The cost of the boat, £156-3s-10d, was provided from an anonymous donation by a lady to the Institution.
